Akampurira Dorcus
Akampurira Dorcus, one of the co-founders of Serve a Smile Foundation, was born in 1996 in Kigina Kitimba Village in Rukungiri District, where she was raised by her grandparents after being orphaned.
Her father had passed away before she was born, and her mother died when she was 2, so she never knew her parents.
When she was 13, Akampurira lost both of her grandparents as well. But before her grandfather died, he had reached out to Kinyasano Child Development Center (KCDC), a charity organization. KCDC sponsored Akampurira’s education from nursery up to Senior 4 and took care of her after her grandparents passed away.
She studied and completed her primary level at Kinyasano Primary School and later joined St. Gerald’s Secondary School, where she completed her O-level.
After her O-Level, she was unable to further her studies because she got pregnant before sitting for her UNEB exams (UCE) in her O-Level final year.
Akampurira gave birth to a baby girl and has been a single mother ever since.
In 2016, she left her home village with her baby girl and started living at Nsambya, Kampala District, with her aunt, who had a restaurant there where Akampurira worked as a waitress.
While working at the restaurant, she met her fellow founders of Serve A Smile Foundation.
Akampurira Dorcus’s past is a strong motivator in her work on behalf of Serve A Smile Foundation.
Being an orphan who went through so many hardships from childhood is a moving force that drives her to help all the children she is able to reach out to.
As Secretary, Akampurira is responsible for logistics at Serve A Smile Foundation. This includes procurement, supply chain, fulfillment of project requirements and accounting for assets.
